Hyphae are the fine threads from which a fungus is made up. Woven together, they form mycelium, the living network behind these figures.
What normally lives invisibly becomes a figure with which you share space. And because each copy grows differently, each image has its own character.
They stand upright, as if they had just been broken by the earth. Narrow, high, with a texture that the fungus designed itself.
I sew the shape of unbleached organic cotton and let the mycelium grow in residual wood chips. After growing I dry the image and finish it with a biobased coating. The mycelium is then inactive and odorless. Suitable for normal indoor use.
The statues shown are 70 cm high with a diameter of 5–10 cm, excluding pedestal. Other sizes and shapes are possible.
