IN PICTURES : SUPERBio'S has begun
The SUPERBios platform is up and running; "the film has begun." We will be working to grow biobased and nature-based interior products and projects in the Netherlands. This will provide manufacturers with a free product platform, and the demand side—interior architects, designers, buyers, etc.—can easily explore biobased and nature-based interior products . We will contribute to the development of truly sustainable interior architecture, with an eye for aesthetics and architectural needs . It can become "The best design decade ever" with products featuring clean and safe compositions and opportunities for nature restoration.
Call for Product Makers
We encourage all Makers—from design studios and workshops to industrial manufacturers—to register and list their interior product(s)* on the platform—free of charge. Good to know: SUPERBio'S acts neutrally and does not perform resell activities.
You can read which Early Birds Makers are already on the platform under points 2 and 3.
Project-oriented 'Makers conditions*':
Makers have a complete biobased or nature-based collection or (a) first biobased product(s)
. material extraction and production take place within the EU
The number of pieces that can be delivered, possibly custom-made, and delivery times are indicated.
The products are suitable for projects ranging from residential to public spaces. Technical data has been provided.

LEADING ROLE - INTERVIEW

The 'Loads Collection' label was launched in 2022 from Spannum, Friesland and is an extension of the acclaimed Studio Claudy Jongstra.
When you use the Loads Collection textile interior products, you choose materials and products that are free from harmful pesticides or insecticides, high-quality, socially friendly and even produced with a net positive impact.

What is the material application and what does the production process look like for the LOADS collection?
The LOADS Collection consists of cushions, bedspreads, stools and custom-made products on request.
The wool textile products from the biodynamic textile label LOADS Collection come from Drenthe heath sheep and Spanish merino sheep.
The LOADS collection is hand-dyed in Studio Claudy Jongstra's paint laboratory using Demeter-certified pigments sourced from partner biodynamic farms.
What drives you most to produce biobased or nature-based?
When you use Loads Collection products, you choose materials and products that are free from harmful pesticides or insecticides, high-quality, locally produced, socially friendly, and even net positive.
In this way, no microplastics/PFAS are released into circulation and through regenerative agriculture we strengthen nature in the deserts of Egypt but also in the monoculture landscape of the Netherlands.
Research into biodynamic agriculture by Jurgen Fritz, University of Kassel
Biodynamic agriculture shows a significant improvement in soil fertility compared to organic. Research by Jurgen Fritz of Kasselt University showed a 31% increase in soil fertility. Biodynamic crops also sequester three times as much CO2 as organic and even eleven times as much as conventional. 20% of water pollution is caused by synthetic dyes, which is why we work plant-based. This also strengthens biodiversity because we are dealing with rare varieties.
The biodynamic cotton production for Loads products takes place outside Europe, in Egypt, in very close collaboration with a significant partner in regenerative cotton farming – the Egyptian Biodynamic Association (EBDA). SUPERBio'S advocates for limiting the transport of materials and production facilities to the project sites. However, the ambitious production level demonstrated makes it clear that the LOADS Collection deserves our full attention, especially since cotton is (still) barely cultivated within Europe, making it an indispensable textile material.
What would you advise designers and buyers to do or avoid?
Focusing too much on "made in the Netherlands." Of course, it's important to keep the supply chains as local as possible. But the way something is produced may have a greater impact on the environment. Furthermore, I would advise buyers to request insight into the entire supply chain. If something is made in the Netherlands, it can still be shipped back and forth to China for specific treatments, for example.
EDITOR'S NOTE: A product LCA provides insight into the entire product development chain. The EPD is the abbreviated version. Manufacturers on Superbio can indicate that they have an EPD.
What is your response when clients say that biobased is expensive?
It seems more expensive, but the price we all pay indirectly is higher. Moreover, a healthy living room free of PFAS and other toxic substances is a crucial necessity that makes the investment more than worth it.
What do you hope to have made progress in within a few years?
We hope to increase our sales so we can support more regenerative farmers in growing dye crops. At the same time, we want to inspire and initiate positive change in the way we produce textiles.
Which project would you like to mention and why?
First, the Bankside Hotel in London , where we furnished the suites with custom-made bolsters (cushions) and throws. This project was a resounding success for the hotel, as the story behind the designs sparked many conversations among both guests and hotel managers. The unusual idea that textiles can contribute to climate solutions offered a hopeful message that left a lasting and authentic impression on many guests.
And secondly, the Roots Exhibition
Our LC Ottoman honors craftsmanship and sustainability with its bold geometric shape and refined patchwork finish. From the biodynamic Sekem cotton, dyed with natural pigments by Studio Claudy Jongstra, to the circular frame made of SAM-Pure board: every detail celebrates the beauty and purity of nature as a conscious and timeless alternative to fast furniture.
At LOADS Collection we believe it is important to collaborate with other designers and makers to further develop the knowledge and possibilities of the material and the way we work.”
The LC Ottoman was featured in Simone van Es’ award-winning Roots Exhibition, “The Last Supper, From a Different Perspective,” at Salone del Mobile 2025.

PROJECT INSPIRATION
By Veenweide Atelier – Henriëtte Waal in collaboration with Friso Wiersma, Meubelatelier Momentum

Cattail furniture for the exhibition "Furniture from the Swamp." The exhibition is being held at the Fries Museum & Princessehof Ceramics Museum. The photos were taken by Henriëtte Waal & Brecht Duijf.
The Frisian peat meadow region is facing a series of landscape-related problems. Veenweide Atelier's pilot projects attempt to address all layers of this cumulative crisis from an eco-social perspective. The Doerebout series focuses primarily on water, soil subsidence, and limiting CO2 and nitrogen emissions. Panels from wetland cultivation were used for furniture aimed at a broad audience. Designer Friso Wiersma explored this issue, together with SAM panels and Meubelatelier Momentum . They developed a series of everyday, scalable furniture. The collection ranges from a bookcase to a milk stool and from a wall shelf to a coffee table. They are made of grass panels covered with cattail paper ('doerebout' in Frisian) and finished with lime wash.
